Led by partners Sarah Hirschman¹ and Ann Worth,² Object Projects is a California-based architecture studio focused on strengthening social infrastructure³ through design.
The Maek Friends universe is one of endless creativity, community, and welcome. For Maek Ceramics’ Encinitas studio, Object Projects sought to translate that spirit into a physical environment—one that feels generous, energetic, and open-ended while supporting the practical rhythms of making, teaching, gathering, and running a small creative business.
Rather than treating the interior as a collection of conventional retail and studio fixtures, OP worked with Maek’s extraordinary ability to fabricate many of the elements themselves. Custom tables, display systems, storage, work surfaces, and other fittings become part of the architecture, allowing the space to feel unmistakably Maek while making the most of the team’s ingenuity and hands-on approach. The resulting design blurs the boundaries between studio, shop, classroom, and community space.
The project is conceived less as a finished backdrop than as a framework for continued creativity: adaptable, approachable, and capable of evolving alongside Maek. Materials and details are deliberately direct and playful, giving the ceramics, people, and activity of the studio room to take center stage while reinforcing the sense that everyone who walks through the door is invited to participate.
